I agree it is not healthy for the game that we may have 1 or 2 teams dominating the schoolboy scene. However I do not believe Kevins and Joeys are that far ahead of everyone else. I agree that Kevins have been hugely succesful in recent years, but apart from Joeys current U16 side what have they really achieved? Its all well and good having great facilties, but you dont judge a book by its cover. It all comes down to coaching structure and the ability of the coaches at each club, you can have a full size all weather pitch at your club while still having coaches running 8 year olds up and down the hills next to that pitch. Look at clubs like Cabinteely and Peamount, they can facilitate elite players but don't have the coaching structure in place to really develop elite players.

Good point about Joeys Playmaker but Kevins have proved they are the top club in Dublin at the moment based on last years success across all the age groups and leagues they are involved in. The topic brought up was "great young sides" and not clubs, based on teams breaking the mould and getting involved with the so called bigger clubs and challenging for honours I would have to go with St.Francis 12s,Templeogue and Lucan 14s and Stella 16s,all top sides playing some fantasic football and have all held on to their current talent pool and added over the years.

why are kevins dominating though? is it simply a case that they have the best players? or is it the coaching? is it the style of football? I have my own opinions but im interested in other views. I want to see 5 or 6 teams in every age group in dublin capable of winning the league ,other teams will need to start changing how things are done otherwise we wont have any "greatyoung sides" forums , because Kevins will have a monopoly on it.

I think it is with both factors you mentioned, they currently have the best players and some of the best coaches along with the facilities to match. They can attract the top players rather than getting caught up in the rat race at the end of each season, saying that last years 11s(this years 13s) let a lot of players go and it seems to have cost them in the league as they have dropped some silly points which I couldnt have seen them do with the previous squad, watch our for the U11s coming through, both Sat and Sun teams are fantastic teams, they will be unbeatable at that age group from next year on for a very long time.

"5 or 6 teams capable of winning the league"!!! Generally the league is between 2 teams, 3 teams some years. Thats just the way it has aways been as most players/parents want their kids playing for the best teams, so the 2-3 teams get stronger and stronger over the years and the others have to try catch up all the time. It has been this way for the last 10-15 years, even longer. The clubs doing well at the minute are doing so because they have great facilities, good coaches and can attract and develop the best players. As a result they win things. However people read too much into winning leagues/cups. The real aim should be to get players across to England or playing league of Ireland. Failing this developing the players to be the best footballer they can be and help mould them into responsible people/adults is what is needed.
