RUSSELL CONSIDERS FUTURE

St Patrick's Athletic midfielder, Martin Russell, says he will consider his future at the Inchicore club after Christmas.

The former Republic of Ireland youth international has been in brilliant form this season, scoring twice in 10 games, but with just one year remaining on his current contract, the 34-year-old says he will soon be evaluating his options.

"I am really enjoying myself at the moment," admitted Russell. "I did consider quitting St Pat's at the end of last season, but I had a good pre-season and now I am featuring regularly.

"Hopefully I can hold down my position for the rest of the season. My contract runs out at the end of the season, so I will start thinking about what's next after Christmas."

The Saints are currently in eigth position, after they were deducted nine points for fielding an ineligible player earlier in the season. However, Russell insists that the Dublin club must carry on.

"Obviously the points deduction was a major blow, but we must carry on playing game after game and then, hopefully, sport will win at the end of the season."
