CARSLEY EYES START

Coventry defender, Lee Carsley, has set his sights on a place in the Republic of Ireland crunch qualifier with Cyprus on Saturday.

The tough tackling midfielder has dropped down the midfield pecking order since the emergence of Matt Holland over the last year.

However, the former Derby and Blackburn midfielder, believes that his early season form, which has seen him bag three goals, could be enough to convince Mick McCarthy to give him a run.

"I would love to play, but we will see what happens," said Carsley. "I was personally disappointed not to have scored when my shot smashed the inside of the far post.

"It is a great time to be involved with the squad and we are all looking forward to Saturday's game against Cyprus. The main thing is that I am fit and ready if Mick McCarthy wants me."
