KEELY CONSIDERS HIS FUTURE

Shelbourne manager Dermot Keely is up in arms over the state of Irish football and is threatening to quit it all together.

An emotional Keely made his comments immediately after last nights heated Dublin Derby between Rovers and Shels.

The game was, as expected, a very competitive one and full of incidents with red cards for Shelbourne pairs, Peter Hutton and James Gannon. Reds keeper Steve Williams and Rovers midfielder both ended up in hospital for treatment.

Yesterday Dermot revealed his frustrations with new commissioner Ray Dooney but it seems that last night is the final straw for a man who loves his football passionately.

Keely paraded up and down the line last night in disbelief at the events that were unfolding in front of him. His inability to alter it in any way must also be a major source of frustration.

Keely said, "The whole thing sickens me. The only thing I like about the game is the players. Everything else is poisoned. I'm seriously thinking about walking away from it at the end of the year. Ollie Byrne told the League how to do their job and they didn't like it."

A dejected Keely added, "You have to ask yourself if you want to be involved in football in this country when situations like this arise."
