Sunny weather gave way to torrential showers on Thursday as the group stages of the Gormanstown International Tournament came to a climax in Meath. There were goals a plenty as some of the best talent in Ireland displayed their skills on the playing fields in Gormanstown College.
Tolka Rovers and Institute became the first sides to reach one of the finals, when they beat Bunclody and Cherry Orchard respectively. Both teams have been very impressive over the last couple of days, so it promises to be a cracking final.
Shelbourne look unstoppable in the under-11 section after a 3-0 semi-final win over Home Farm, although they will have to play to the best of their ability, if they are to overcome an impressive Lourdes Celtic, who beat Boyne Rovers in their last four clash.
Shelbourne entered this tournament boasting two teams, who they claimed, would walk away with their respective age group trophies. It appears that could be the case, after the Reds saw the second of their two teams reach the final of the under-12's, after a devastating 8-0 drubbing of Balbriggan. Leicester City will have their work cut out when they face Shels on Friday morning.
Belvedere and Sheriff will face each other on Friday morning in the battle for the under-13 cup. Belvo produced a fantastic display to see off Boyne Rovers on Thursday, while Sheriff had a convincing 3-0 win over Shamrock Rovers.
The 14 and 15 sections completed their group sections on Thursday. Dundalk and Stella Maris have really impressed in the under-14 section and you can expect to see one or both in the Friday evening's final, while Bohemians are the only team with a 100% record in the under-15 section.
