Drogheda United - Drogheda Diversity Day

21 May 2008

The club have teamed up with Show Racism The Red Card, the FAI and Drogheda Gardaí and produced a wonderful poster, which will be launched on the day, and over the course of the year, it will be given out to thousands of schoolchildren across the North-East of the country.

Drogheda Diversity Day will officially be launched on the Wednesday evening, when Drogheda Gardaí take on Mosney United at United Park. Mosney United are a multi-cultural team, based at the Mosney Asylum Centre and play in the Meath and District League.

On Thursday morning, 150 children will attend United Park for a series of themed fun events. The new poster will be officially launched, followed by fun and games for all the kids. A number of local community and voluntary groups have then been invited to a luncheon, which will include a Drogheda United/FAI presentation and a local launch and viewing of the Show Racism The Red Card DVD.

After lunch, there will be an anti-racism display on West Street in Drogheda. African dancers will put on a display in the street, while local business leaders and councilors will be invited to take part in a penalty shootout competition.

The aim of Drogheda Diversity Day is to promote diversity and multi-cultural inclusion through fun activities and sport. Club Promotion Officer Terry Collins said "It is going to be a great day, with a positive message to the kids. Drogheda is a multi-cultural town and we are happy to be doing our bit to promote multi-cultural relations."
