The Republic of Ireland side, under coach Declan Boyle, beat hosts, Scotland 4-1 with a brilliant team performance. The side started very brightly and scored in the 26th minute with a volley from Johnathon Clarke played in from a corner by John Paul Strappe.
John Paul Strappe went on to set up the next goal for Christopher Denieffe, who in turn lobbed the keeper from outside the box. Strappe went on to score the goal of the tournament in the 52nd muinite when he beat the Scottish defender and unleashed an unstoppable shot from 30 yards. Scotland retaliated with a consolation goal when they scored at close range from a corner kick. Republic of Ireland weren't finished yet and in the 91st minute, Strappe lobbed the Scottish keeper to bring his goal tally to two.
Ireland's second match saw them draw nil all with Northern Ireland in what was a hard fought match. Northern Ireland held possession for most of the game but created very few scoring chances due to the superb performance of the Irish defence. As the score remained nil all in when the Scottish took on Northern Ireland, the Irish side came away Champions for the first time.
