Champions League Draw today

30 August 2007

The Champions League draw is to take place today putting 32 teams into eight groups of four.

Celtic and Rangers will both be drawn into the group stages from Pot C and D respectfully while Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal all reside in Pot A which contains eight sides represented by only three separate nations including England, Italy (Inter Milan and AC Milan) and Spain (Real Madrid).

Sevilla have not yet qualified in Pot B because their return fixture has been postponed due the tragic death of Antonio Puerta but they will play their second leg game against AEK Athens on 3rd September.

The undefeated UEFA cup champions boast a two-goal lead from the first-leg and look very likely to be joining Barcelona, Real Madrid and Valencia in the group stages.

Italy have four sides but from just two cities as Rome will have Lazio and Roma while Milan will have Inter and AC being their regular champions league stalwarts.

There is no change in Portugal's contingent, as Benfica and FC Porto will both enter the competition from Pot B.

The English sides will all head their groups and are unlikely to clash but another potential Premiership-SPL clash is on the cards with Rangers and Celtic both out there.
