Marcello Lippi has resigned as coach of Italy just days after leading the side to their fourth World Cup success.
The 58-year-old has opted to call-it-a-day despite widespread calls to remain in the position.
Lippi is believed to be unhappy with the way he and his son, Davide, were attacked personally in the match fixing scandal that has rocked Italy.
He failed to show for a meeting with the Italian Federation on Tuesday.
