Shev to make opener

Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko is confident he'll be fit in time for his country's opening game in the World Cup against Spain on June 14.

The AC Milan clubman has been out of action for the past month after suffering a knee injury in a Serie A game.

"My condition improves day by day," said Shevchenko. "I have to be careful not to speed things up as there are certain things that you cannot hurry.

"When the doctors examine me again, my condition and my World Cup hopes will be more clear."
