Irish rivals beat Basque XL

The Republic of Ireland's European qualifying opponents Wales enjoyed a 1-0 win over a Basque XI yesterday, Sunday May 21.

Wales' winner came courtesy of Manchester United's Ryan Giggs, who found the net after running the length of the field in the 75th minute.

"We had to clear off the line twice so they'll be disappointed, the Euskari, and feel they should have at least drawn or won the game," said Wales coach John Toshack.

"But we had chances even when we weren't playing that well and finished the game quite strongly."

Wales' next outing is a friendly against World Cup qualifiers Trinidad and Tobago in Graz, Austria on Saturday.
