Australian Soccer prices Hyundai out of new sponsorship

07 November 2007

Hyundai's sponsorship is due to run out at the end of next season and negotiations have been ongoing for several months, according to The Australian newspaper.
The newspaper reported that FFA is asking for around Aus$19 million for a new, four-year deal - around three times the original sum paid when the A-League kicked off in 2005.
Although the A-League has been a success with crowd attendances passing the million mark for the third season in a row, the FFA's bargaining position has been undermined by news that it recorded an Aus$11 million loss for the last financial year.
FFA chief executive Ben Buckley said he is "very confident in the organisation's business plan and ability to restore financial profits over the next four-year cycle that takes in the next World Cup".
